Tony Nardi, Commander of Post 10 presented a check to Carla and Sandra for the sponsorship of multiple tiny homes. The post is always looking for important ways to help our Veterans. The Northwoods Veterans Homestead is a reputable 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to providing crucial assistance to Wisconsin’s homeless veteran population.
The Northwoods Veterans Homestead is set to pioneer the first veteran-specific homeless operation in northern Wisconsin, catering to all homeless veterans in the state. The Homestead will encompass a spacious community center, sixteen cozy tiny homes, a veterans’ market/shop, and a vibrant community garden. Their priority is to provide person-centered programming, tailoring services to meet the unique needs of each veteran, empowering them to regain self-sufficiency and make meaningful contributions to their communities. Moreover, they ensure that homeless veterans can focus on their future success without any financial burden.
The Northwoods Veterans Homestead program covers a wide range of essential life skills, including cooking, financial management, job searching, resume writing, and personal hygiene. Additionally, The Homestead collaborates with community partners to facilitate access to professional services in areas such as healthcare, legal aid, and counseling. Texas Roadhouse Donates Gift Cards for Veterans
The Texas Roadhouse in Rib Mountain presented $2,490 worth of gift cards to the Wausau American Legion Post 10 on Thursday, February 6, 2025. This was the ninth consecutive year that they have provided Post 10 with gift cards. These cards are made possible through a Texas Roadhouse program including their amazing staff and the generosity of their guests. With this gift card program the Post is able to expand its assistance to Veterans in need.
Throughout 2024, previous cards have enabled the Post to provide many Veterans and their families meals. The Post 10 Service Officer oversees the distribution of the cards to those in need. With uncertainty of travel and health concerns, these gift cards and the Texas Roadhouse “Meals to Go” program provide an opportunity for Veterans to call ahead to pick up their meals.
The Post also provides their Honor Guard members with gift cards after they have presided at more than one military funeral rite on the same day.
On behalf of the Post 10 members and all Veterans, we salute you!

Post 10 Vehicle Is Used for Honor Guard & General Use
Our post purchased a Ram 1500 SLT Club Cab vehicle from Brickner's Wausau to transport the rifles and flags to each Military Honors ceremony performed by our Honor Guard. It will be used to pull a trailer in parades as well as transport items to various event we host.
Detailing of logos and lettering was done by FlipSide Graphics. Additional updates and photo shots will be done with the Honor Guard in the near future. Additional details will be in the February Monthly Update, listing the donors, plus more about the details how the truck bed will be outfitted. All ideas are welcome.

New Law Creates 988 Suicide Hotline
Press “1” after dialing "988" to be routed to the Veterans Crisis Line
Legislation designating a three-digit phone number for a national suicide prevention and mental health crisis hotline has been signed into law.
The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act directs the FCC to designate 988 for the National Suicide Prevention Line and allows veterans to press “1” after dialing 988 to be routed automatically to the Veterans Crisis Line for veteran-specific mental health support.
“The whole message is ‘Be there for a veteran,’” said Dr. Bert Berger, manager of the Mental Health Division at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center. “It’s really about making that connection, about being able to talk and provide support.”
BeThereWis.com provides quick and easy access to online resources and contact information. The task force is the coalition behind the website and ongoing initiatives, bringing together organizations that serve Veterans and nonprofits focused on suicide prevention.
